Meet Todd & Diane Porter

"Our site began as the perfect creative outlet to share our love of storytelling, gardening, recipes, travel and everything we were passionate about."

When did you start publishing, and what inspired you to create your site?

We started publishing White on Rice Couple in 2008. It was the perfect creative outlet to share our love of storytelling, gardening, recipes, travel and everything we were passionate about.

What do you love most about being an independent publisher?

Being independent publishers allows us to share anything we want, whenever we want. The flexibility of being able to create content based on what mood we’re in, what we’re eating and where we’re going is truly a remarkable position to be in. The added bonus is that our passion project allows us to earn income to pursue everything we love. We feel so lucky!

Do you have a team?

Yes we have a small team of creatives, and we have anywhere between 3-6 independent contractors helping us with recipe testing and social media management.

What can you tell us about interacting with your audience?

We have a very close and personal relationship with our readers. We’re not just about SEO for recipes. Our readers come to read about our pups, what they’ve been up to, what we’re growing this season and where we’ve explored. So this relationship is very special and we don’t ever take it for granted. The biggest surprise was when we were on the beach with our dogs and a reader recognized our dogs first, then recognized us from a distance. She came up to us and had a lovely conversation. Our dogs were pretty famous! LOL.

How does advertising impact your business?

Advertising is a big part of our revenue stream and it’s really amazing. We get to create fun content and Adthrive takes care of the rest in regards to advertising. It’s a really sweet deal.
